Music and Staebler Insurance have been connected for decades. Dating back to the Staebler family’s own affinity for the art, including Keith Staebler who was an accomplished pianist and helped create the Kitchener’s Centre in the Square, to our organization’s many years of sponsorships of local festivals and events – it’s a rich history!
Continuing that tradition, Staebler Insurance is a proud supporter of Wilfrid Laurier University’s music department. Our commitment is renewed each year with the university’s Staebler Insurance Music Award, given annually to a student who demonstrates exceptional skill and promise in piano performance. The award provides financial assistance to help a student further their studies and develop their musical talents.
We’re thrilled to announce that 2023’s recipient is Jack Wyndham, a Laurier music student and an exceptional talent who is building an impressive online portfolio. Congratulations, Jack!

History of Staebler Insurance and Wilfrid Laurier University
Our involvement with Wilfrid Laurier’s Faculty of Music began in 1990 when Staebler’s then president, Stephen Philpott (a Laurier alumnus himself), established the music award scholarship in dedication to the Staebler family, originally named the H. Leslie Staebler Award.
Stephen believed that providing financial assistance to talented students could help them pursue their musical dreams and contribute to the cultural enrichment of our community.
The first award was given during the 1990-91 academic year and since then it has been awarded to 39 total recipients, including 30 unique winners.
In addition to the Staebler Insurance Music Award, we’re also very excited to contribute to Wilfrid Laurier’s Making Space for Music Campaign. More details will be announced soon!
