Important car insurance extras

Collision
When you’re at fault in an accident, or single vehicle accident, your own insurer will pay for damage to your vehicle and its contents.

Comprehensive
This coverage pays for damage caused by certain events other than an accident. Examples include hail, flood, theft, fire, vandalism, or glass breakage.

All Perils
This coverage is collision and comprehensive combined with the same deductible. Also covers theft of vehicle by someone in the household.

Optional Increased Accident Benefits
Increases basic benefits for income replacement, medical or rehabilitation, and caregiver coverage. These are very important coverages that all drivers should consider.

Keep in Mind
While these coverages are not mandatory, if you owe money on your vehicle, your lienholder or lessor may require you to have collision, comprehensive, or all perils coverage to protect their interest in the vehicle.

Family Protection
The OPCF 44 endorsement covers you, or an eligible family member, to the same limit as your Liability Coverage if you are involved in an accident where you are not at fault, with someone who carries less or no insurance, or is unidentified (e.g. a hit and run)

Loss of Use
The OPCF 20 endorsement covers the cost of a temporary rental vehicle if your vehicle is not drivable after a claim for which you are covered.

Liability for Damage to Non-Owned Automobile
The OPCF 27 endorsement provides physical damage coverage (subject to a deductible) to vehicles that you may operate but do not own – such as a vehicle you have rented or borrowed.

Waiver of Depreciation
The OPCF 43 endorsement stops depreciation from being deducted from the value of your vehicle when settling a claim.

Claims Foregiveness
Protect your claims history. Your first claim is treated as if it never happened. You will keep your claims-free history as long as you stay with your current insurance company.
Minor Conviction Protection
Protect your good driving record. By having your first minor conviction forgiven, you will not lose your Conviction Free Discount as long as you stay with your current insurance company.

Your Other Vehicles
Your ATVs, motorcycles, and snowmobiles have many of the same coverage options as your automobile. Talk to your broker about insuring your recreational vehicles.
